Piper Aircraft
The History of Piper Aircraft Incorporated
Piper Aircraft Inc. is a well known manufacturer of general aviation aircraft. This company is currently located at Vero Beach Municipal Airport in Vero Beach, Florida in the USA. There is a lot of history behind this company, and they became very popular because of the unique design of some of their models.
In September 1927, a company by the name of Taylor Brothers Aircraft Manufacturing Company was founded by Clarence Gilbert Taylor and Gordon A. Taylor. In late 1930, that company filed for bankruptcy, and its assets were bought out for $761 by William T. Piper. Piper continued to use the factory facility that the Taylor brothers occupied in Bradford, Pennsylvania until 1937 when a fire destroyed it. The factory was abandoned and the operation was moved to Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, at which time the company was renamed Piper Aircraft Corporation.
Throughout the years, Piper Aircraft has manufactured some of the best selling aircraft. Although the company was met with tragedy on a number of occasions, they still managed to remain viable and produce aircraft to suit the tastes and needs of the flying public.
Take a look at some of the most popular Piper models of all time, some of which are still available for purchasing through aircraft financing:
• Piper Cub - this is the original light single engine aircraft manufactured by Piper Aircraft Inc. It stood out because of its signature yellow paint and had its place in American history by being used throughout World War II
• Piper Cherokee - this aircraft was primarily used for flight training and air taxi service. Its signature feature was the single door that allowed access to the aircraft. Passengers and crew would have to climb on the wing to enter the plane
• Piper Arrow - this is a retractable gear aircraft that was built by Piper between 1967 and 1979. This aircraft was known for having good leg room and baggage capacity.
• Piper Warrior - this aircraft was originally designed for flight training purposes and marketed as such, especially the Piper Warrior III
• Piper Seneca - this is a twin engine light aircraft that has been in production at Piper Aircraft Inc. since 1971. It is good for flying over expansive mountain ranges and wide bodies of water at 25,000 feet
• Piper Archer - this all metal, unpressurized four seat aircraft is ideal for recreational use, and boasts the same single door design as the Piper Cherokee. Today, it continues to have good resale value
• Piper Cheyenne - this turboprop aircraft manufactured by Piper Aircraft Inc. was known for its corporate styling, making it a favorite for business travelers
Today, many of the models of Piper Aircraft continue to sell. The company is also looking into manufacturing newer, more advanced aircraft to cater to the high end clientele. With a history as rich as theirs, they should have no problem convincing buyers that they only know how to manufacture quality.
