The Piper Archer: the Recreational Pilot’s Dream

There is a wide range of aircraft on the market that was manufactured by Piper Aircraft Inc. To date, some 160 models and 144,000 units of Piper aircraft exist, some used ones for purchase as well as some brand-new models. The Piper Archer II is one of the models that was first flown in 1960 and development of other models went on for several years after.

The Piper Archer II is an all metal, unpressurized four seat aircraft that was particularly effective and popular for recreational use. It included the same single door setup as the Piper Cherokee, except the door was on the co-pilot's side. Therefore, passengers and crew alike would have to climb onto the wing in order to get access to the plane. While that feature intrigued some passengers, others were a bit perturbed by having to climb up on the wing to enter the aircraft.

The Piper Archer offered improved legroom compared to earlier models of Piper aircraft. In addition, the horsepower had been improved over the years to meet the demands of the flying public. Fuel capacity was also increased over time to allow for longer flights. Thanks to the various improvements made to this aircraft, it continued to sell well for Piper Aircraft for a number of years.

Some years later, the Piper Archer II was replaced by the Piper Archer III as a fun and recreational aircraft. However, the Piper Archer III was soon discontinued in 2009. It lasted only two model years, however, it definitely made its mark for the short time it was available. The used Piper III continues to stand its own ground in the very competitive market for used aircraft.

The Piper Archer II has a maximum cruise speed of 125 knots and can accommodate 48 gallons of fuel. The Piper Archer III has a maximum cruise speed of 128 knots and can reach a service ceiling of 15,100 feet, which is very similar to the service ceiling of the Archer II. Both models are suitable for recreational flying, and also have very good resale value. You can find a Piper Archer for sale just about anywhere, although some owners may be more interested in holding onto them because of the good resale value.

It would be a good investment to find a Piper Archer for sale that has served its time to the current owner and could definitely be useful for your recreational flying. You are guaranteed to get an aircraft that is reliable and displays the Piper standard of quality.
