The Evolution of the Piper Warrior Aircraft

Throughout its years of operation, Piper Aircraft Company has brought several models of aircraft to the general aviation industry, 160 to be specific. Their aircraft were designed for a variety of reasons, including recreational use, flight training and air taxi services. One of the more popular models was the Piper Warrior, which was originally introduced as a variant to the Piper Cherokee PA-28. This model went on to have a very long life.

It was reintroduced as the Cherokee 150 in 1974, and referred to as the Cherokee Warrior, or PA-28-151. As with the common naming of other Piper aircraft, the 151 indicated that this aircraft came with a 150 hp engine. Of course, that was not necessarily the most powerful engine, but it certainly allowed this model to achieve the purpose it was built for.

In 1978, Piper upgraded the Piper Warrior to a 160 hp aircraft, hence changing the name to Piper Warrior II or the Cherokee Warrior II as it was also commonly referred to as. It continued to be marketed as a model good for flight training. That factor also played a part in the creation of the Warrior III, which is still available today, however with a glass cockpit. Many flight schools across the world still use the Warrior III to conduct training of new pilots.

This four seat aircraft has a maximum speed of about 160 knots, with a maximum cruise speed of 115 knots, allowing it to reach a maximum altitude of 11,000 feet. In July 1982, newer models of the Piper Warrior were introduced with a gross weight increase to 2440 pounds. Therefore, it not only served as a flight training aircraft, but was also able to carry some amount of weight. Both factors contributed to the success of the newer models.

Today, people can still access a Piper Warrior checklist by looking at online resources. This checklist basically provides information on emergency procedures that should be adhered to during flight. The online versions available are very useful because it would be very difficult to find a used Warrior with its flight checklist in tact.

The Piper Warrior had just about 5,000 units manufactured throughout the time that the Piper Warrior 2 and Piper Warrior 3 were introduced to the market. Although that was not the most impressive sales figure for Piper Aircraft, the early Warrior models still contributed to revenue as a popular recreational aircraft. Today, most Piper aircraft can be found used by checking online resources. It serves as a good recreational aircraft in the event that is really all you are looking for.
